Pre-Order PUNKROCK* JAZZ: The Art of Toby Cypress

Punkrock* Jazz is off at the printers, the files have been approved for production and A Wave Blue World is ready to start taking pre-orders! The advantage of pre-ordering is that Toby will sign and sketch copies in the order that they are received. They anticipate beginning to ship them out in early May.

Either way, you’ll soon have a copy of this fantastic new art book in your hands so you can spend countless hours pouring over Toby’s breath-taking work!

Punkrock* Jazz: The Art of Toby Cypress is hardcover, full color, 112 pages with 4 3-page gatefolds and 10 removable prints, all of only $25!

New Art and Commissions in the OOSA store

TOME (final) T.Cypress_EngineAssassin I've added some new work from Toby Cypress to the OOSA store. The painting is Toby's contribution to 44FLOOD's book TOME. The other piece is from the VILLAINS and ASSASSINS group show at the Strychnin Gallery in Berlin on August 10th (and includes an "EPIC" edition print of the image).

I've also made a place in the store where you can order commissions from the OOSA artists. You can see whose list is open and what their rates are, as well as samples of commissions they've done in the past. Check it out:

Hurricane Sandy Relief sales

I'm sure you all saw how Hurricane Sandy affected the East Coast,  specifically New York and New Jersey. One of OOSA's own, Toby Cypress, was right in the middle of that mess on the Jersey Shore. His town was hit pretty hard and they anticipate being without power for a while, not to mention the long-term clean-up efforts. Toby is fine, but he may be out of commission for a bit. So to help out, I'm putting all of Toby's original art on sale to try to get him some money in his pocket. Enter the code word "SANDY" at the OOSA store when you buy any of his original pieces for the discount. The sale will end on the 16th, so don't miss out. Greg Ruth is also having a sale at his Etsy store and donating 50% of proceeds to the International Red Cross to help with their relief efforts for the areas affected by Sandy. Be sure to check that out as well.

Thanks!

OOSA Anniversary Print Set

Well, I've been doing Out of Step Arts for about a year now. What better way to celebrate than to offer some of the special things the OOSA artists have done this year? The OOSA Anniversary Print Set is a limited edition box set of 50. These are precision, two-piece construction boxes designed with a close tolerance to keep out dirt and dust. They have a black paper lining with a white foam backing and a black textured acrylic coated exterior featuring a snazzy OOSA logo.

On the inside, you'll find the 3 collaborative OOSA prints we did to promote Out of Step Arts at our convention appearances this year.

- "Demon Wolf" by Greg Ruth and Logan Faerber - "Unknown World" by Paul Maybury and Alexis Ziritt - "Road Rage" by Toby Cypress and Andrew MacLean

These three prints are 4-color inks on 11x17 inch 100lb. paper with a satin finish.

And exclusively available ONLY in the OOSA Anniversary Print Set:

-"Apathia" by Ming Doyle

This is a print of Ming's painting for the 'Villains and Assassins' show at the Strychnin Gallery in Berlin and it is BEAUTIFUL! The print is 4-color inks on 100lb. linen to replicate the texture of the original canvas and measures 11x15.5 inches.

All of the prints are matching numbered and signed by the artists.

I am opening these up for pre-order in the OOSA store since they are not <i>quite</i> ready. I'm still missing a piece of the puzzle. Please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery.

Upcoming Gallery Shows

Here are some gallery shows the OOSA artists will be participating in this month. Logan Faerber will have a piece in the "ADVENTURE TIME: A Tribute Show" by OhNo!Doom

C'mon, grab your friends! Chicago collaborative OhNo!Doom invite you to Adventure Time. A tribute show inspired by the hit Cartoon Network™ series, Adventure Time features all-new works by more than 43 international designers, illustrators, and plush artists. Join us in paying honor to Finn, Jake, all their friends and our friends, too, on August 11, 2012, at OhNo!Doom Gallery (1800 N. Milwaukee Ave). It'll be mathematical!

Doors open at 6pm and close 10pm. Food and beverages will be provided by WormHole Coffee and Fritz Pastry. Adventure Time runs from August 11-30, 2012. Please direct all questions or media requests to hello@ohnodoom.com.

Ming Doyle and Toby Cypress will each have a piece in the "VILLAINS & ASSASSINS" show by Strychnin Gallery Berlin.

On August 10th the world‘s most evil, dangerous and depraved characters will reign Strychnin Gallery at the gathering of Villains and Assassins.

These characters constantly engage millions of spectators into a love-hate relationship due to their brilliant but twisted minds, their tragic history or supernatural powers and high-tech equipment.

All of these iconic figures are best known for their remarkable characteristics and obsessions. While some simply enjoy the thrill of the kill, others are just made to execute orders or even torn between what they think they must do by nature but still despise.

No matter what vicious plans and compulsions some of these malicious creatures have, Strychnin Gallery has invited the most eccentric and compelling villains to be showcased for your pleasure. Come and see them until September 9th.

Paul Maybury will have a piece in the "ADVENTURE TIME TRIBUTE" show at Gallery Nucleus.

Come on grab your friends, on August 18th we're going to very distant lands. Specifically to the Land of Ooo, where Jake the Dog and Finn the Human share unpredictable adventures with a cast of characters. Cartoon Network and Nucleus present a totally lumpin' awesome exhibit featuring over thirty truly talented artists paying tribute to the animated series. The roster also includes artists from the series as well as the Kaboom comic book. Stay tuned as we announce more details about artist appearances, contests, and opening night festivities.

The fun will never end...it's Adventure Time!

Logan will have prints of his piece at available at the OhNo!Doom Gallery. Toby has limited EPIC edition prints of his piece available in the OOSA store. And stay tuned to find out how you can get exclusive prints of Ming's piece!

Toby Cypress Commissions and Epic Edition Prints

Hey folks! It's been a while since I've made an update, but there has been a lot happening behind-the-scenes so look for much more activity here in the next few weeks. First up, though, Toby Cypress is going to take on some commissions during the month of August. But these aren't going to be your typical "Draw me (fill in the blank)". Toby is not interested in doing licensed characters. Instead, he’s looking to create something unique based off of your interests. You would give Toby a list of specific things you like (characters, movies, songs, paintings, etc) and adjectives or feelings you want the commission to portray (dark, funny, sexy, kick-ass, etc.). Toby will incorporate these elements into the piece, but create something totally original.  Prices are as follows (shipping not included):

11x17 inked pieces for $150 11x17 paintings for $300 (a $100 deposit is due up front for the paintings)

If you're interested in getting a commission or have questions about the process, feel free to email me.

Second, Toby is going to be releasing some very limited "EPIC" edition prints through the OOSA store on August 1st. Click on the pictures to purchase them.

"Engine Assassin" Giclee print on watercolor paper 18x24 inches Limited Edition of 10 with serialized holographic stamp and matching signed/numbered COA.

"Thunder Alley" Giclee print on watercolor paper 13x26 inches Limited Edition of 10 with serialized holographic stamp and matching signed/numbered COA.

New OOSA prints for Heroes Con

A while ago, I had asked the OOSA artists to team up to create some one-of-a-kind prints to showcase the talent at Out of Step Arts. If you'll recall, Greg Ruth and Logan Faerber did an amazing job on their print that was debuted at Spectrum LIVE! last month.

Well now, the other prints are ready to be revealed and will be debuted at Heroes Con next week.

Andrew MacLean and Toby Cypress worked together to create a futuristic world where the ladies rule the road.

Alexis Ziritt and Paul Maybury teamed up on this ultimate team-up comic cover: "Unknown World".

We'll have all of these prints, along with the original art, for sale at the OOSA tables in Indie Island (522-527). The prints are 4 color inks on 11 x 17 100 lb "silk" paper and only cost $10 each or $25 for all 3! Supplies are limited, though, so swing by early if you want 'em.  You can also have your pick of one the prints if you donate at least $20 to the Hairy Cell Leukemia Research Foundation AND run in the Heroes Con Fun Run Saturday morning.

I could not be more proud to be offering these, so I hope you'll come by and check them out.

OOSA at Spectrum LIVE!

Spectrum LIVE! is just around the corner and we are getting excited for Out of Step Arts to make it's official debut. Alexis Ziritt, Logan Faerber, Toby Cypress and Andrew MacLean will all be there, so come by booth #903 to chat and check out all of the books, original art and prints they'll be bringing. And speaking of prints...... Since this will be OOSA's first convention appearance and all, I wanted to do something special to mark the occasion. OOSA artists Logan Faerber and Greg Ruth (who were both selected to be in the upcoming Spectrum 19) worked together to come up with this amazing piece just for the show. We'll have prints of this for sale, as well as the original, so be sure come see us and pick up this convention exclusive!

UPDATE: Regrettably, Logan Faerber had to cancel his appearance at Spectrum LIVE. I'll still try to have some of his work on hand for everyone to check out, though.

Can I help you find something?

I'm sure you all are aware of the OOSA store by now, right? The artists have a great sampling of some of their work available for sale there. I try to encourage the artists to send me new work to list there every once in a while so there are new choices for people looking to buy something.  In fact, Alexis Ziritt just put up a bunch of new stuff so he can pay to replace his recently deceased computer and make his way to some conventions (Spectrum and Heroes Con) this summer. But, did you know that pretty much all of the artists have more work available for sale than what's listed in the store? Paul Maybury, for example, has pretty much every page from every project he's ever worked on and he's looking to find it a new home so he can cover some recent unexpected expenses. Andrew, Logan, Toby and Greg, I'm sure, all have stuff they'd love to sell, too, that's not listed in the store. So how do you get your hands on all of this unlisted stuff? Just ask! If there is a specific page or an image you've seen from any of the OOSA artists that you want to own, just get in touch with me and I'll check and see if it's available. The worst I can say is "Sorry, it's already sold." And if you're looking for something really specific, several of the OOSA artists are open for commissions right now and would be happy to draw you whatever you're looking for.

A big week at OOSA: Sales and a new artist!

There is a lot going on at Out of Step Arts this week. Let's break it down. First thing, PAUL MAYBURY is going to be having a huge sale starting on Friday. Not only is he adding new art to the OOSA store, but he's also listing all of his art half off!!! And if that's not enough, he'll also be offering single character commissions for only $50.  The sale won't last for long, though. Just 2 weeks. Paul has had a run of bad luck with machines lately and needs to cover some expenses. So, look for the price changes to happen on Friday and act fast! I have a feeling things will sell out quickly.

Speaking of price changes, ALEXIS ZIRITT has reduced his commission prices to $60 for 11x17 inked pieces and $100 for 11x17 watercolor pieces. If you were waiting for a reason to get something from him, there it is. Expect to see some new art from Alexis in the store soon, as well.

TOBY CYPRESS has just added some copies of his graphic novel Rodd Racer in the store for just $5 (plus $3 for shipping)! These are the out-of-print and hard to find PunkRock Jazz Publishing versions with the  B/W pages. Each copy comes with an original sketch by Toby in it, too.

And finally, we're adding a new artist to the OOSA crew!!! Who is it, you ask? Well, our good friends at Heroes Aren't Hard to Find are going to help us make the announcement on their Heroes Con blog this week, so be sure you are either on their mailing list, or are following them on Twitter or Facebook so you are one of the first to know.

Our Spectrum Live Booth

Spectrum Fanastic Arts LIVE has released the floor plan for the event in May.  We were given a great spot on the front row near Stuart Ng Books and comic book artist Ben Templesmith. That should provide us with a lot of traffic from comics-minded people. So, come by booth #903 and see us. Toby Cypress, Alexis Ziritt, Andrew Maclean, (and even though he's not listed on the map yet) Logan Fareber will all be there with me.

A few things about art purchases

First of all, I wanted to let you know that I have updated the store to include new art by Andrew MacLean and Alexis Ziritt. It's great stuff available at even better prices, so please go take a look.  While your there, take a look at Toby Cypress' and Greg Ruth's work, too. Alright, now lets talk about some other things.

Commissions Currently, Alexis and Andrew are open for commissions.

  • Andrew is asking $50 for 11 x 14 inked single characters and $75 for 11 x 17 inked pieces with background or more than one character.
  • Alexis is asking $80 for 11 x 17 inked pieces and $130 for 11 x 17 watercolor pieces.
  • If you want something more complex from either artists, prices can be negotiated on an individual basis.

Payments Did you know that you can make payments on a lot of what we have in the store?  It's true! If you're eyeing something, but don't have the cash in hand, just email me and we'll see what we can work out.

Looking for something specific? Do you want a certain page/panel from one of these guys, but don't see it in the store? Just ask me about it. I'm happy to contact the artist to see if it's available. I've helped make quite a few sales this way, in fact.

The Out of Step Arts store is not supposed to be just a storefront; it's meant to be an interactive way to buy what you want from the OOSA artists.  Have a question? Ask me. Need something? Tell me what you're looking for.  I'm here to help.

New art in the store this weekend

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!!! I'm going to be listing new art in the store from Alexis, Toby and Greg at 3pm EST on Sunday.  Here's what you can expect to see from each artist.

  • Alexis will be putting up the pages from his Tijuana Bible Peligro Supremo that he made for last year's Heroes Con.
  • Toby will have a couple of pages from his online comic KURSK, a beautiful splash page from RODD RACER, and an acrylic painting that everyone will be buzzing about.
  • Greg is listing the last of his 52 WEEKS pieces and the Out of Step Arts store will be the only place you will be able to get what's left.  And to celebrate the release of his art book "The 52 WEEKS PROJECT: Volume 1", Greg will be giving away a free signed copy of the book to the first three people to order one of these pieces!

Updates, updates, updates...

It's been a while since I've posted any new news here on the site, but there has been a lot happening behind the scenes.  In the mean time, here is a little update on what the guys are up to. Alexis Ziritt is a busy guy between family, work and art.  He's been knocking out pages for The Package graphic novel and doing the occasional doodle when he can.  (You all saw the Jonah Hex he did, right?) Alexis has also teamed up with a super-talented bunch of guys to start a sketch blog.  Things are still coming together on that, but you can keep an eye on Brand New Nostalgia either on Deviant Art or Tumblr (coming soon).  And I know you all have been waiting patiently, but I should have some of Alexis' art up for sale in the store soon.

Toby Cypress is also a really busy guy.  He's been up to his eyeballs in deadlines for Blue Estate.  Fortunately, he took the time to send me some work to put in the store.  It should be up ether the end of this week or the beginning of next week.  It's amazing stuff and I expect if to go quickly so be ready.  Also, look for more work on Kursk to be online soon.

Greg Ruth will be making an appearance this weekend if you'd like a chance to pick up some art or talk to the man in person about his projects. Where you ask? Why, in his front yard! He and his wife (who makes lovely jewelry) will be taking part of the Ashfield Fall Festival in Ashfield, Massachusetts.  If you're within driving distance and are looking for a get-away, this should be a fun thing to do.  If you can't make the trek, Greg will be sending me some more art for the store soon.
