Rebecca Kirby is a South Philadelphia-based illustrator and cartoonist. Since completing her BFA in illustration at the University of the Arts, she has painted pinups for John Arcudi/James Harren's RUMBLE, Andrew MacLean's HEADLOPPER, Farel Dalrymple's PROXIMA CENTAURI, and Dave Baker/Nicole Goux's F*CK OFF SQUAD. She is currently working on a very mysterious story with the very mysterious John Arcudi, as well as a couple of other things for a well know publisher that we can't talk about yet. Soon, though.
Rebecca has also shown work in the annual Society of Illustrators student exhibition ('15, '16), local art shows and benefits, and publishes her own zines and comics (KISSING, EGGY, ICLUB, and WAVES).
Rebecca has long been enamored with comics as a platform for picture-based storytelling. She draws visual influence from a wide variety of illustrators, cartoonists, painters and sculptors; these include the golden age beauty of Maxfield Parrish and Arthur Rackham, the formless movement of inkblot cartoons, the surreal elements of Jean Giraud and Hayao Miyazaki, Katsuhiro Otomo's attention to detail, and the color palette of Do-Ho Suh, to name only a few.
As she continues to work in comics, she hopes to explore the scope of what the medium is capable of, using her unique take on storytelling and picture-making as the vehicle.
